Our Breed

Although there is some indication that the Welsh Corgi is several thousand years old, the earliest record of the breed in the British Isles is about 900 A.D. Found in Wales, this dog was associated with the county of Cardiganshire (now the County of Ceredigion) in the central part of Wales. Corgis are first and foremost cattle dogs, and on the farm, the Corgi fetches and drives cattle, taking them to water or to pasture.

It is a fact that many Corgis will do this spontaneously. It is inbred.  Corgis also handle flocks of sheep, can follow horses for many miles, and have been gun-trained by hunters. They are, in fact, capable of being trained for nearly any task requiring speed and intelligence.

But whatever the task, all owners of this wonderful breed will say the same - their Corgi is the most cheerful, affectionate and tireless of dogs.
